Firmware
Talk to your machine's controller. GRBL setup, baud rate, the $ settings.
The firmware running on your machine's controller is the layer between Beam Bench and the motors / laser. For GRBL machines, the firmware accepts G-code over serial and stores its configuration in EEPROM via $ settings.
You usually do not need to touch firmware after initial setup. When you do, the guides below cover the operations you are most likely to need.
In this section
- GRBL configuration: common settings, what they do, when to change them.
- Baud rate and serial port: match Beam Bench to your controller.
- $ settings reference: every GRBL setting with a one-line description.
When to dive in
- First-time setup of a machine.
- After mechanical changes (motor, pulley, leadscrew) that require new steps/mm.
- When connection fails (baud rate mismatch).
- When laser power behavior is off (
$30,$32).
