Beam Bench Docs

Software update

Check for updates and protect unsaved work before installation.

Beam Bench checks for updates on startup when that preference is enabled. An available-update notification has a View action; the dialog does not open automatically. You can also check manually from the app menu.

The dialog shows the current and available versions, release notes, installation blockers, progress, and any error.

Install an update

  1. Finish or successfully cancel the active job and wait for the machine to become idle. A paused job still blocks installation.
  2. Click Install and Restart.
  3. If the project has unsaved changes, choose to save them, discard them, or cancel the update action.
  4. Wait for download and installation, then allow Beam Bench to restart.

The update process checks for unsaved work again before proceeding if you edit the project during the download. A failed save does not authorize discarding the remaining changes. Cancelling the unsaved-work prompt stops the pending action.

Download begins only after you request installation and resolve any required unsaved-work prompt. Updates do not install automatically in the background.

Reminders and progress

  • Not now closes the dialog and snoozes reminders for 24 hours.
  • Skip this version suppresses reminders for that version. A newer version can still prompt.
  • During downloading or installation, the dialog disables its action buttons. Errors appear in the dialog.

Preparing, ready-to-run, running, and paused jobs block installation, as do busy machine states. Use the machine's physical stop if software control cannot confirm that motion or laser output has stopped.
