Written guide
Fit and shape editable text, then preserve a separate outline copy when needed.
Text, fonts and fitting
- Choose Text, click the canvas and type, then Escape to finish. Search the installed fonts in Properties; choose a real available family and style.
- In Alignment and spacing, Center aligns the example's two lines. Tracking changes letter gaps; Line spacing changes the gap between lines. Inspect the full word after either change.
- For a fixed name area, choose Text > Box. Set Box width 60 mm and Squeeze to fit. Compare a short and a long name while keeping text editable.
- Check readability and clearance from the tag edge and hole. Equal box widths do not prove equal visual size or legibility.
- If a font is missing, use a properly licensed installation or an installed replacement. Recheck every character, width, spacing and fit.
- Saved outlines help retain the supplied appearance, but later text edits can need the original font. No system font is bundled in this pack.
Curve, path and weld
- Advanced Text Shape > Bend uses a radius; the demonstration uses 80 mm. Circle uses Top/Bottom, Inside/Outside and Arc Span. Inspect direction and letter clearance.
- For the wave case, select editable text, choose Path, Select Path and click the guide. Baseline Offset moves the text relative to that path.
- Make the guide a Tool layer and include only the lettering for offline Preview. Close Preview and return operation Output off before saving.
- Weld joins overlapping script outlines. Inspect the planned paths rather than assuming any script font has suitable overlaps.
- Duplicate the editable text before Convert to Path. The converted copy has nodes but loses word/font editing.
- Compare only the answer for the chapter you are attempting. Font substitution or a different installed style can change bounds.
Practice and comparison
Use the supplied box-text and circle-text starters. Fit both names into the 60 mm box, put round at the top of the coaster and table at the bottom, and make a separate welded script case.
- Preserve editable originals and use Save As for each task.
- Check all letters and any accent on canvas and in an offline Preview. Restore operation Output off afterwards.
- For path text, retain the guide reference but exclude its Tool layer from processing.
- Compare settings and structure as well as appearance. Do not install or redistribute a font without its license.
- What does Squeeze to fit change when the name becomes longer?
- How does Baseline Offset differ from moving the guide?
- What remains editable after Convert to Path?
Explained answers
- Fixed box
- Both names use a 60 mm box; the longer name compresses more. Inspect readability and actual clearance.
- Text on a path
- The wording follows the guide; Baseline Offset changes its distance from that baseline.
- Weld and outlines
- Weld removes overlapping letter boundaries. Convert to Path freezes an outline copy and removes text editing; keep the original.
- Missing font
- A replacement can clear a warning while changing the layout. Check the full text, symbols and Preview again.
