Written guide
Create numbered labels and dates, merge selected names from CSV, and make a square QR code with clear space.
Serial numbers and dates
- Open serial-demo-start.lzrproj. In Serial Number mode, use SN-{Serial}. Set Start 1, Advance By 1, Serial Padding 3 and Copies 5. Use Horizontal spacing 0 mm and Vertical spacing 14 mm. Read every Preview value before Create copies.
- Compare serial-demo-answer.lzrproj: SN-001 through SN-005. The original remains as a reusable template and advances to 6. One Undo reverses the batch and counter; Redo restores it. Hide the original in the Outliner to exclude it from the job.
- Open date-demo-start.lzrproj. Choose Date/Time and YYYY-MM-DD. Use Made {Date:YYYY-MM-DD}, Copies 2, horizontal 0 mm and vertical 18 mm. Refresh date and time uses the local computer clock.
- Apply keeps the source personalized. Create copies makes fixed ordinary text. Cancel closes without changing the original. Compare date-demo-answer.lzrproj, saved on November 6, 2026. Your local date may differ.
Copies keep the source font, style and text area. These starters use Courier Regular at 12 mm and have room for the examples. Check the longest result and spacing. Recheck spacing whenever you reopen the dialog.
Names from a spreadsheet
- Open csv-demo-start.lzrproj and select the text. In Personalize Text, choose Merge/CSV, then Load CSV. Open demo-names.csv, which has the Name heading and five fictional names.
- Use the Name column button to insert {CSV:Name}. First data row 1 means the first row after the headings. Copies 5 uses all five names. Copies 6 is refused because the file has only five data rows.
- Use horizontal 0 mm and vertical 14 mm, then Create copies. Check ANA, BEN, CHRIS, DANA and ELI. Reopen the source dialog to inspect the next row; using all five rows in this example returns it to row 1. Hide the original.
- Save As a new project copy. Compare csv-demo-answer.lzrproj. Its source embeds the CSV data and its five generated names are ordinary text. It can reopen without the original CSV, but keep that file to edit the list later.
- Headings and fields
- Use exact column headings inside {CSV:Name} and {CSV:Code}. The column buttons insert fields without typing their syntax.
- Check the set
- Check spelling, blanks, duplicates, selected row range, the longest name and actual text fit. Creating text copies does not duplicate a complete tag outline.
- CSV format
- Export a comma-separated UTF-8 CSV from your spreadsheet. The supplied examples are plain text with fictional names; the first row contains the headings.
- Which two checks would catch the wrong name or the wrong row range before creating a batch?
Create and check a QR code
- Open qr-demo-start.lzrproj. Use Tools > Create Bar Code. Set Type to QR Code, enter https://beambench.com and keep Medium error correction for this example.
- Set Width and Height to 25 mm, then Create. In Layers, set the operation Mode to Fill so the code modules are solid. Compare qr-demo-answer.lzrproj.
- Keep at least four modules of clear space on all four sides. This specific symbol is 25 modules across: at 25 mm, each module is 1 mm, so allow 4 mm per side and reserve a 33 x 33 mm square.
- Check the complete intended address and read the code with a suitable reader. The saved native screen example decodes to https://beambench.com. That checks the digital payload; it does not prove readability on a finished item.

Your turn: four small tasks
Save your own attempts before opening the answer projects. Work disconnected and keep both Output controls off. The guide is a printable worksheet, not an interactive PDF form.
- Open serial-practice-start.lzrproj. Create ten SN- labels starting at 7, advancing by 2, with three-digit padding. Use horizontal 0 mm and vertical 18 mm. Inspect the next source counter and hide the original.
- Open date-practice-start.lzrproj. Make one fixed copy using Made and the DD/MM/YYYY format. Use your local date. Hide the source, save and reopen to check the date remains fixed.
- Open csv-practice-start.lzrproj and load practice-names.csv. Combine Name, a space, slash, space, and Code using the two column buttons. Start at data row 2 and create 2 copies, horizontal 0 mm and vertical 18 mm. Hide the source and save.
- Open qr-practice-start.lzrproj. Resize the code to 30 x 30 mm. Keep Fill mode. The symbol still has 25 modules across. Work out the module width, clear margin per side and total reserved square. Save and check its address.

Compare and explain
- Serial answer
- serial-practice-answer.lzrproj contains SN-007, 009, 011, 013, 015, 017, 019, 021, 023 and 025. There are ten copies. The source advances to 27; padding gives three digits without changing the increment.
- Date answer
- date-practice-answer.lzrproj contains Made 06/11/2026, the local recording date. Your copy should show your own local date in DD/MM/YYYY form and keep it after reopening.
- CSV answer
- csv-practice-answer.lzrproj contains JO / B2 and MORGAN / C3. Headings are not data rows. Starting at row 2 and using two rows leaves row 4 next. The hidden source retains the embedded four-row CSV.
- QR answer
- qr-practice-answer.lzrproj is 30 x 30 mm and contains https://beambench.com. Each module is 1.2 mm wide. Allow 4.8 mm clear space on each side and reserve a 39.6 mm square. Digital decode passed; finished-item readability still needs a later check.
The pack includes four demo starter/answer pairs, four practice starter/answer pairs and both CSV files. Demo projects show the video examples; practice projects use different requirements. All projects retain editable native objects, have no machine binding and have both Output controls off.
- What did you change after comparing your attempt with the answer?
