Written guide
Create and review your own profile, then keep its export separate from preferences and libraries.
Create the right profile
- Use the machine documentation to identify its controller and supported connection. Brand or wattage alone is insufficient. Check the Devices controller choices and any Experimental label in your version.
- Create a clearly named new profile and Save it before opening a Machine Preset preview. Preserve existing profiles.
- Choose the exact model if available. Click Preview, read the proposed changes and note, then Apply only when it matches your machine.
- Without an exact preset, use the machine specifications. A similar model can have a different bed, origin or power range.
- Check bed width/height, coordinate Origin and S-value Max against the actual setup. The course example is 370 x 360 mm, bottom-left, S 1000. Those are comparison values, not a universal profile.
- For GRBL, match S-value Max to the controller's documented $30 value. A read-only $$ query can report settings with the appropriate idle local connection. Do not change firmware merely to copy an example.
Your profile review and backup
- Keep the controller disconnected while creating/reviewing the profile. Leave unverified fields clearly recorded.
- Check homing hardware/configuration separately. A preset flag does not add switches or prove a working reference procedure.
- Save edits, then use Devices > Profiles > Export for your profile backup. Keep the exported file with a date and a setup record.
- On another computer, import through Profiles and review the fields before selecting its local connection. Machine-profile exports, Material Library exports and Export Prefs are different backups.
- Exact model/controller and documentation used:
- Verified bed, origin, power range and homing configuration:
- Export filename, date and separate backup location:
Worked values and explained checks
- Power scaling example
- If the controller reports $30=1000, S-value Max should match 1000. Another controller value needs its own match.
- Connection
- Select the actual port/transport on the destination computer. A saved profile is not a connection to hardware.
- Provided references
- s-value-example.json and recorded-profile-fields.json are readable example records, not files to import as a machine profile.
- Profile export
- Use an export from your verified setup. A course example cannot establish your homing hardware or safe travel.
course-s30-profile.bbprofile is the recorded example for disconnected inspection. Its Homing enabled flag is on and Home on connect is off. Verify the actual switches, controller configuration and all profile fields before selecting any profile for operation. Any import comparison belongs in a disposable setup; keep your existing profiles.
- Which value must S-value Max match?
- Which backup contains preferences, and which contains the machine profile?
- What remains to verify before selecting this profile for a real run?
Files and comparisons
- Checking your machine profile
- Folder checking-your-machine-profile. s-value-example.json. Keep this chapter's inputs and comparisons together.
- Saving and exporting a profile
- Folder saving-and-exporting-a-profile. recorded-profile-fields.json. Keep this chapter's inputs and comparisons together. course-s30-profile.bbprofile is the example export. It is separate from the reference JSON record.
Use the comparison after your attempt. Check the specified dimensions, settings and object structure.
