Offset
Expand or contract the selected paths by a fixed distance. Pick direction and corner style.
The Offset dialog creates a new path offset by a given distance from each selected path. Useful for kerf compensation, decorative borders, and producing inset / outset cuts.
When it opens
Menu: Modify → Offset Shapes, or hotkey Alt+O. Requires at least one selected path.
Fields
| Field | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Distance | mm (number, min 0.1) | Offset distance. |
| Direction | select | Outward (grows the shape), Inward (shrinks), or Both. |
| Corner Style | select | Miter, Round, or Bevel. Determines how outward-offset corners are treated. |
| Delete Original | toggle | If on, the source shape is removed after the offset is created. |
Buttons
- Cancel: dismiss without offsetting.
- Apply: create the offset.
Notes
- For kerf compensation, use Direction: Inward and the distance = beam width / 2.
- Round corners avoid the sharp-spike artifact that Miter gives on tight outward corners.
- Open paths may produce only one side; the dialog handles them as best the geometry allows.
