Written guide
Navigate, select overlapping objects and keep a multi-part design together while making copies.
Navigate and snap
- Use the canvas-navigation practice files. Scroll near the point of interest to zoom. Hold Space and drag to pan.
- Cmd + 0 or Ctrl + 0 fits the workspace. Cmd + Shift + A or Ctrl + Shift + A fits the selection.
- Use snapping-start.lzrproj. G shows/hides the grid; Snap enables grid-sized steps. Grid spacing is in Units and Grid preferences.
- For object snapping, turn grid Snap off, start dragging, then hold Option on Mac or Alt on Windows/Linux near the target.
- Center the 20 mm circle on the 80 x 40 mm rectangle. Both centers should read X 200/Y 200. Compare snapping-answer.lzrproj.
- Inspect coordinates rather than relying on a visual near-match. Save a separate exercise copy.
Select and organize
- Click to select and empty canvas to clear. Shift-click adds; Cmd-click or Ctrl-click toggles. A selection box selects multiple shapes.
- Use Option-click or Alt-click on overlapping artwork to choose from the list. Outliner can select a named hidden/overlapped object directly.
- Select the tag and hole together, then Cmd + G or Ctrl + G to group. Cmd + U or Ctrl + U ungroups.
- Double-click a group to edit inside it. Inspect the breadcrumb and return to Canvas when finished.
- Arrange > Lock Selected Shapes protects the selection. Outliner's group lock restores editing. Locking is an editing control.
- Use the supplied grouping and Outliner cases as separate tasks. Keep each chapter's own project and answer together.
Independent copy task
Open copy-practice.lzrproj. Select its tag and hole together. The 100 x 45 mm tag has an 8 mm hole.
- Duplicate with Cmd + D or Ctrl + D. With the new pair selected, use the center Properties reference and enter X 200/Y 217.5.
- Duplicate that selected pair again and enter X 320/Y 217.5. The original center is X 80/Y 217.5.
- Check six objects: three tags, each retaining its hole and original size. Compare copy-practice-check.lzrproj after your edit.
- Try Copy/Paste and Paste in Place, Option + V or Alt + V, in a separate trial. A copy in place overlaps its original. Undo the trial before saving.
- Delete one practice tag pair, then Undo with Cmd + Z or Ctrl + Z. Redo uses Cmd + Shift + Z or Ctrl + Shift + Z.
- Why should the tag and hole be selected together?
- How can an in-place copy create an unintended extra operation?
Answer checks and shortcuts
- Navigation
- Fit the whole workspace or the selection. Panning changes the view, not object coordinates.
- Grouping
- A group helps edit components together. Outliner exposes the children; lock prevents an edit until unlocked.
- Copy result
- Three unchanged 100 x 45 mm tags with 8 mm holes, centered at X 80, 200 and 320, all at Y 217.5.
- Undo
- Undo restores the deleted artwork in the open editing history. Keep deliberate saved versions as well.
The supplied screenshots are prior native comparisons. Match the intended selection, coordinates and structure rather than expecting your panel layout to be identical.
