Lesson guide

v1v2BackupCheckpoint
An illustration of the file workflow. Check the active filename after every Save As.
  1. Use the Demo files to follow the video. Open save-start.lzrproj and Save As tag-v1 in your own working folder.
  2. Before editing, Save As tag-v2. Select only Tag outline, turn the W/H lock off and set W to 100 mm. Save with Cmd + S or Ctrl + S.
  3. Reopen both versions. The outline is 80 mm in v1 and 100 mm in v2. The hole stays 4 mm.
  4. Save As tag-v2-backup to backup storage. Reopen and check it, then return to the working tag-v2 before editing.

Independent practice

Use the Practice folder. Keep the supplied answers intact and save your attempts in your own working folder.

  1. Open practice-start.lzrproj, then Save As practice-v1. Save As practice-v2 before editing.
  2. Select only the outline, unlock W/H and set W to 110 mm. Save, then reopen both versions. v1 stays 80 mm wide; v2 is 110 mm. Height stays 30 mm and the hole stays 4 mm.
  3. Save As practice-v2-backup in your backup location. Reopen it and inspect it, then reopen your working practice-v2.
  4. Import practice-arrow.svg and place it inside the tag. Save As practice-checkpoint, reopen it and inspect the arrow.
  • Check the active filename before Save. The asterisk marks unsaved changes.
  • Compare with the supplied version, backup and checkpoint answers after making your attempt.
  • Which file would Save update right now?
  • Where is your protected backup stored?

The supplied arrow answer uses X 150 mm and displayed Y 232 mm at the top-left anchor. Its placement is a comparison example.

Autosave and answer checks

Save updates the active project
Save As makes the new copy active. Return to your working copy after checking a backup.
Autosave is a separate recovery copy
Check General in Preferences and its interval in seconds. The video shows 120 seconds without changing it. Edits after the latest snapshot may be absent.
If recovery is offered
Choose the correct project, Restore, inspect the recovered work, and Save As a separate recovered version. Do not intentionally crash the app for this exercise.

Compare the supplied files

In Demo, compare tag-v1.lzrproj, tag-v2.lzrproj and tag-v2-backup.lzrproj. The saved tag-recovered.lzrproj contains the recovered star; star.svg is the imported artwork. These are comparison projects, not recovery archives.

In Practice, compare practice-v1.lzrproj, practice-v2.lzrproj, practice-v2-backup.lzrproj and practice-checkpoint.lzrproj. The checkpoint includes the arrow. You can check these versions and checkpoints without creating a crash.
