Terms and Disclaimer
BeamBench is a free desktop app for driving laser engravers and cutters. It is provided as-is, with no warranty. Operating a laser is your responsibility.
Last updated: June 10, 2026
Short version
BeamBench is free, provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. Laser engravers and cutters use intense light, often at wavelengths the human eye cannot see. Improper use can cause permanent eye injury, severe burns, fire, and property damage. The operator is responsible for the safe use of the machine and the materials being processed.
When the BeamBench docs and the manufacturer of your machine, your goggles, or a material disagree, follow the manufacturer.
No professional advice
BeamBench is built by makers for makers. The website and the in-app documentation reflect practical experience and published reference material. They are not, and do not claim to be, professional advice on laser safety, fire safety, industrial hygiene, electrical work, ventilation engineering, chemistry, materials science, or ophthalmology.
Authoritative sources for any specific situation include:
- The safety documentation, warnings, and labels that shipped with your machine.
- The safety documentation that shipped with your laser goggles.
- The safety data sheet (SDS) from the manufacturer of any material you cut, engrave, or burn.
- Local fire, building, electrical, and ventilation codes.
- A qualified eye-care professional for personal vision needs.
- A licensed installer for exhaust routing through a wall or roof.
When in doubt, do not run the job and consult one of the sources above.
No warranty
BeamBench (the desktop app, the website, and the documentation) is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, completeness, or uninterrupted operation. The full risk of using BeamBench is with you.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will BeamBench, its author, or its contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including but not limited to damages for personal injury, eye injury, property damage, loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, business interruption, or any other commercial damages, arising out of or in connection with the use of or inability to use BeamBench, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Operator responsibility
You are responsible for the safe operation of your laser, including but not limited to:
- Wearing eye protection rated for your laser's wavelength and power.
- Verifying that any material you process is safe to laser at your machine's wavelength and power.
- Providing adequate fume extraction and ventilation.
- Keeping appropriate fire suppression equipment within reach and trained on its use.
- Never leaving a running job unattended.
- Complying with your local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Reading and following the documentation that came with your machine.
Third-party hardware and software
BeamBench talks to third-party machines, controllers, cameras, and firmware that are not built by, controlled by, or warranted by BeamBench. BeamBench does not endorse or take responsibility for the behavior, safety, or fitness of third-party hardware or firmware. Refer to those vendors' documentation for safety, capability, and warranty information.
Beta status
BeamBench is beta software. Features may change, behavior may shift between releases, and bugs may exist that are not yet known. Do not rely on BeamBench for safety-critical decisions. Verify what the machine is about to do (using the frame and preview features, your eyes, and common sense) before pressing Start.
Changes
These terms may be updated as BeamBench evolves. Continued use of the app or the website after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
