Hardware setup

Set up your physical laser for the first time, then keep it dialed in.

The one-time setup that makes everything else work. Most of these guides are run once per machine, but they pay back every job.

In this section

  • Machine profiles: create and switch between profiles for different machines.
  • Workspace and origin: bed dimensions, workspace origin, job origin.
  • Laser pointer offset: measure a separate red-dot pointer's physical offset and choose a safe placement method.
  • Rotary setup: configure and safely verify an experimental roller or chuck rotary on a GRBL-family controller.
  • Install a camera: mount, focus, and connect a workspace camera.

Order

If you have a brand-new machine, do them in roughly this order:

  1. Machine profile (create a profile that matches your machine).
  2. Workspace and origin (verify bed dimensions, workspace origin direction).
  3. Laser pointer offset (if your machine has a separate red-dot pointer).
  4. Rotary setup (if you own an attachment; preserve the original wiring and follow the rotary safety limits before enabling it).
  5. Camera installation (when you are ready for visual placement).

After this, run the Quality tests on a piece of scrap, save results to the Material Library, and you are calibrated.
