Written guide
Center one shape inside another, then place the complete layout at the page center.
Lesson guide
Keep the reference shape selected last
Open align-start.lzrproj. Select the circle first. Hold Shift and select the outer frame last. The frame is the alignment reference.
- Try Align Left, then Undo with Cmd + Z on Mac or Ctrl + Z on Windows/Linux. The last-selected frame is the reference.
- In Properties, under Arrange, use Align Vertical Centers to match the centers left to right.
- Use Align Horizontal Centers to match the centers top to bottom.
- Keep both objects selected and click Center on Page. Click empty canvas to inspect the result.
Compare with align-complete.lzrproj. Undo uses Cmd + Z on Mac or Ctrl + Z on Windows/Linux.
Independent practice
Make your own attempt before checking the explained answer.
Open align-practice-start.lzrproj. Center the 30 × 10 mm rectangle inside the 80 × 50 mm frame, then center both on the 400 × 400 mm page. Keep the original sizes.
- Select the smaller rectangle first and the outer frame last.
- Use both center-alignment controls, then Center on Page with both objects selected.
- Save As a new copy so the starter stays available.
- Predict the left and right clearances.
- Predict the top and bottom clearances.
- Where should their shared center sit on the page?
Explained answer
Use this page after completing the independent practice.
- 25 mm on each side
- Subtract the inner width from the frame width: 80 minus 30 leaves 50 mm. Split that equally between left and right.
- 20 mm above and below
- Subtract the inner height from the frame height: 50 minus 10 leaves 40 mm. Split that equally between top and bottom.
If an object moved the wrong way, Undo and select the outer frame last. If both objects share a center but sit away from the page center, select both and use Center on Page. Compare with align-practice-check.lzrproj.
Matches the demonstrated Beam Bench 0.2.37 interface. All supplied projects use a 400 × 400 mm page.
