Outliner

Find, rename, reorder, hide, and lock artwork in the project hierarchy.

The Outliner lists layers, groups, and objects. It is useful for finding overlapping artwork and restoring objects that are hidden on the canvas.

Open Window > Outliner, or select Outliner in Design's default right dock.

A named rectangle selected in the Outliner, with visibility and lock controls.

Select and rename

Expand a layer or group to see its contents. Click an object's row to select visible artwork. Use the selection modifiers to add to the selection.

Double-click a name to rename it. You can also focus a row and press F2. Press Enter to commit the name or Escape to cancel.

Reorder and move

Drag a layer row to change layer processing order. Drag a top-level object or group to reorder it or move it to a different layer. Watch the insertion indicator before dropping.

Moving artwork to a layer applies that layer's shared processing settings. Check power, speed, mode, and Output after moving it.

Visibility and locking

  • An object's eye button hides or restores it. Hidden objects are excluded from the job but remain listed here.
  • A layer's eye button changes its canvas display only. Use the layer's Output control to exclude the whole layer from the job.
  • The lock button protects objects from editing. Locked artwork still runs when it otherwise qualifies for output.

When a group is selected for output, its visible descendants are included. Check Preview before running a selection, especially when it contains groups, clones, or masked images.
